About

Hello and welcome to the Catholic Homebody! This is a lifestyle blog designed to inspire and help you in fixing up your domestic church in all areas of home life: faith, family, home improvement and decor, and home educating. I invite you to come in and see a glimpse of my own home; a place where I strive in creating a charming and pleasant atmosphere for my family to love to call home and grow in holiness.

“Sometimes she must leave God at the altar, and find Him in her housekeeping.” – St Frances of Rome

The person behind the Catholic Homebody:

I am Roxanne and as you can probably guess from the name of the blog I am a total homebody. My husband and I were both cradle Catholics but reverted in 2008/2009 when we received the sacrament of Holy Matrimony at the young age of 19 and 23. One of the nice things about being married so young is we get to grow up together. As of now, we have six wild but amazing blessings (with one in heaven) ages ranging from ages 10 years old to a few months old. We currently live in a modest home in Northern Virginia where we attempt to live more intentionally and minimally. Living on a blue-collar pay in a two-income world can be very challenging and that is why I strive to make frugal a bit more fruitful. I like to think of myself as creative, I have strong passions for pregnancy/birth, and love DIY projects. I am not an expert by any means but a jack of all trades.

We are also a homeschooling family. This was a decision my husband and I made before even getting pregnant with our first baby. My main goal in home educating my children is for them to know, love, and serve the Lord along with learning the beautiful teachings of the Catholic Church. Homeschooling is a major part of our lives. For us, it is a way of life. We have a heavy influence of Charlotte Mason’s philosophy within our educational methods but overall I am eclectic.

Catholic Homebody:

I first started a blog, Lifting Up Treehouse, a few years ago as a digital scrapbook/ journal outlet, but there was no consistency. I had always dreamed about having a “real blog” but was always too intimidated. At the beginning of 2017, I decided to take my blogging more seriously but as of mid-2019, I have decided that Lifting Up Treehouse was no longer relevant to my goals as a blogger and rebranded to the Catholic Homebody. Here you will read about our Catholic faith, how I manage my large family lifestyle while on a tight budget, living minimally, our homeschool journey, DIY home design & improvement, and the occasional dose of “a day in the life” of our family.

I can’t believe I forgot to post this. I meant t I can’t believe I forgot to post this. I meant to on St Valentine’s feast day (here we are a half month later🙈). Anywho, here are the homemade sugar cookies that Bradley and Genevieve made for our local Catholic homeschool group’s St Valentines Day party. They had a baking competition and won FIRST PLACE! I’m so proud of them, especially because it was our first time every trying to make royal icing (which was super messy btw). It’s so nice to have kids old enough and capable of making delicious treats😉

I still can't believe that my 6-year-old received I still can't believe that my 6-year-old received Holy Communion before she was supposed to. Since then I have changed our religious studies and am now doing First Communion prep after her first Communion. 😜 My Confession Guide for Kids has been very helpful and is nice that she can bring it with her when we do go to confession.

My Confession Guide for Kids along with my Stations of the Cross with Prayers cards are both available in the Catholic Mom Bundle. SWIPE to see the inside and the station of the cross cards. Who else got bombarded with snow 🙋🏻‍♀️ Who else got bombarded with snow 🙋🏻‍♀️? We got about 10-12” here in northern Virginia. Our power went out so we’ve been trying to stay warm by using our fireplaces and doing everything by candle light. Although it’s a total inconvenience, it’s actually a little nice. Thankfully we have a bunch of advent candles 😜 My kids were comparing it to Alonzo and Laura. Hopefully we will get power tomorrow. Any tips for meals without power?

Definitely a Christmas story for the books: Avila Definitely a Christmas story for the books:
Avila unexpectedly received her first Communion Christmas Eve. She, without us knowing, received the Eucharist when we went up for communion. After Mass, we were talking with the priest and mentioned it which he thought was hilarious.
During Sunday Mass (feast of the Holy Family) he had her go up during the homily and told everyone the story and decided to give her special permission for her to keep receiving Holy Communion and after Mass let her do her first confession.
It is not all what I expected but I learned that BIG blessing can surely come out of not so desirable situations.
I’m thankful God has placed this reflection on my heart, especially after our current loss. 🖤
